Hallyway of Building 6 UNM-LA Chancellor Dr. Mike Holtzclaw and Director of Business Operations Bob Harmon conduct a walk-through recently of Building 6 on the UNM-LA campus.

As the new academic year approaches, UNM-Los Alamos (UNM-LA) is excited to announce some significant changes that will enhance the learning environment and bring new opportunities to the UNM-LA campus. UNM-LA believes these changes will contribute to a vibrant community that fosters growth and exploration.

Building 6 Renovations:

The main classroom building, Building 6, is currently undergoing extensive renovations to create a more inviting and conducive learning space. This renovation project includes updates to classrooms, offices, hallways, common spaces, and bathrooms. New carpets, ceiling tiles, lighting, and other improvements will be introduced to make the learning experience even better. Additionally, all heating and cooling systems within the building have recently been replaced, and plans are in place to update the roof. The aim is to have the much-improved Building 6 ready for use by the Spring semester of 2024. During this renovation period, classes and services will be temporarily relocated to other areas on campus. The university administration is confident that the temporary inconvenience will be worthwhile, as the revamped building promises a more enriched academic environment.

Ceramics Program Reinstatement:

Due to unanticipated delays in other major building projects, UNM-LA is reinstating its Ceramics Program for the coming year, while simultaneously pursuing alternative locations to house the program in the future. The university administration is enthusiastic about welcoming students back to enjoy the hands-on experience of making pots, sculptures, and other creative projects in the revived Ceramics Program.

New Programs and Faculty:

As UNM-LA expands its educational horizons, a brand-new Elementary Education program will be launched under the continuing education department, with plans to evolve it into a credit-bearing program soon. Additionally, the university is thrilled to relaunch the Certified Nurse Assistant (CNA) program, catering to the growing healthcare needs of the community.

Furthermore, UNM-LA proudly welcomes new faculty members to its team. They will be joining the institution to teach various subjects, including Physics, English, Engineering, Welding, and Math. Their expertise and passion for education are expected to undoubtedly enrich the academic experience of the students.

The UNM-LA community continues to thrive, and these changes are a testament to the university's commitment to the growth and success of its students. The administration expresses gratitude for the understanding and support of the community during this transitional period.

UNM-LA looks forward to welcoming all students and stakeholders back to campus for an exciting and transformative academic year. Together, the faculty, staff, and administrators aim to create an environment that fosters innovation, curiosity, and lifelong learning.
