UNM-LA Announces Three Week Cancellation of Face-to-Face Classes; Campus Remains Open
March 13, 2020 - UNM-LA News Release
UNM-Los Alamos, in coordination with UNM, will not conduct face-to-face classes during the period from March 14 - April 5, 2020. This will extend the "spring break" period by two weeks.
The campus will remain open. We are working with supervisors to help employees navigate the need to address child care issues caused by K-12 closures, the need for social distancing, and the importance of protecting our students' educational futures.
During this three week period, instructors will be working to modify delivery systems to provide learning environments that necessitate less immediate presence after April 5. Some classes that are currently face-to-face will be moved online, other classes (especially science labs, welding, EMT, etc.) may modify the density of students in learning spaces to increase social distancing.
At this point, we are not extending the term which will end May 16th as planned. We will use this three week period to have faculty determine how to successfully complete courses with a term that is now two weeks shorter than normal.
All UNM-Los Alamos students should regularly check their UNM email accounts.
The campus has also canceled numerous public events and gatherings through April 30.
This decision has been made in coordination with UNM, other higher education institutions, and the New Mexico state government. This is a dynamic situation and plans may be modified moving forward. UNM is committed to providing quality education and also to the health of our community.
