Are you a student looking for a fun and rewarding local internship? UNM-LA’s Community Internship Collaboration (CIC) enhances your educational experience by matching you with an opportunity to Work, Learn, and Earn.

WORK

Over the course of one semester, students provide 60 hours of work on a project-based internship experience provided by a local business. Working alongside a mentor, students will gain the skills and knowledge necessary to complete the project.

LEARN

In conjunction with the internship, students are required to take BSTC299, an eight-week professional development course. Throughout the program, students will learn not only from the business mentor, but also the faculty advisor and fellow classmates.

EARN

Students will earn a $900 stipend and 1 academic credit for successful completion of the program. Businesses may choose to hire interns after the completion of the program, should a suitable position be available.

  1. Attend an information session or make an appointment with the Internship Coordinator by calling 505-662-5919.
  2. Explore available internships (coming soon) and select 2-3 that look interesting.
  3. Speak with the businesses at the Meet & Greet (date/time TBD). A pizza lunch will be provided to the students. It's a great opportunity to learn more about specific internships.
  4. Fill out an application.
  5. Interview with the businesses selected in your application.
  6. Attend an orientation to register for BSTC 299 and fill out required paperwork.
  7. Begin working at your assigned internship and attending BSTC 299.

At the information sessions, UNM-LA staff will explain more about the program, including the benefits and expectations, and answer any additional questions. Internship opportunities are limited, so be sure to attend an information session to learn how you can secure one of these competitive positions!

In-Person Info Sessions:

Dates/Times TBD

If you are unable to attend one of the information sessions, please call 505-662-5919 to schedule an appointment with the Internship Coordinator, or email cic@unm.edu.

To apply for an internship, please complete the following steps:

  1. Submit an application and list your top 3 internship preferences.
  2. Check your UNM-LA email address frequently for further instructions.

PLEASE NOTE: To be eligible, students must be 16 and older and enrolled in at least 6 credit hours at UNM-LA.

  1. Once your application has been submitted, it will be reviewed and your contact information will be forwarded to your top 3 choices.
  2. Businesses will contact you for an interview.
  3. Attend each interview and then inform the Internship Coordinator of your top choice.
  4. Internship placements will be made by the Internship Coordinator. While we try to match students with their first choice, it is not a guarantee.
  5. Once you’ve accepted an internship position, you will need to attend a MANDATORY Orientation Session (date/time TBD). This is when you will register for BSTC 299.
  6. Begin your work hours and start attending BSTC 299.
