Business

At UNM Los Alamos, in the department of Business, we offer various courses in Business Technology (BSTC), Economics (ECON), and Management (MGMT). The Management (MGMT) courses include 100 and 200 level business courses offered at UNM-Albuquerque through the Anderson School of Management.

About the Program

As a student interested in Business, if your goal is a Bachelor’s degree in Business, we recommend the Associate of Arts (AA) degree in Pre-Business Administration. If you are interested in an Associate’s degree that can help you enter the labor force more quickly, but is not designed as a transfer degree, then you can pursue either an Associate of Applied Science (AAS) degree in Accounting or an Associate of Applied Science (AAS) degree in Business, with a concentration in either Business or Management.

Many students who are not Business majors take courses in Macroeconomics (ECON 105) or Microeconomics (ECON 106) to satisfy a Core Curriculum requirement for degrees at UNM. We also offer courses in Project Management, Intro to Entrepreneurship, and Personal Finance that are frequently taken by non-business majors.

Career Opportunities

The AA in Pre-Business is designed as a transfer degree to a Bachelor’s degree program. The courses will introduce you to the field of business. It is based on the first two years of the degree program at UNM’s Anderson School of Management, but transfers to most bachelor’s degree programs in business.

The AAS degrees in Accounting and Business are degrees designed to help you join the workforce with an Associate’s degree. These degrees are not designed as transfer programs. With the AAS degree in Accounting, you will learn about financial and managerial accounting, Quickbooks, tax accounting, and other business areas. Past students have obtained jobs with local accounting firms, small businesses, and the Audit Division of the State of New Mexico.

The AAS degree in Business, with Concentrations in Management or Marketing, can provide you with a strong business background and a specialization in an area that interests you. Past graduates have obtained jobs with both small and large businesses in management, marketing, and other business related positions. Some have even started their own business.
