College Council Meeting Minutes - November 10, 2025

Call To Order: Anne called the meeting to order at 1:32 and acknowledged a quorum.
Approval of Meeting Minutes from September 15, 2025, meeting: The minutes were approved unanimously.
Announcements (open floor):
- DeBray Bailey announced that new IT is being installed and training will be forthcoming.
Anne thanked DeBray for all of his work in improving the IT systems for faculty and
students.
- Citla announced that there will be Lobo Awards for faculty and staff Awards recognizing
staff and faculty as nominated by students. and the presentation will take place December
1, 9–10 a.m., Wallace Hall. Refreshments will be served.
- Mike announced that deliveries will take place during the weekdays, including Fridays.
Meeting Agenda Items:
Amended College Council Bylaws
Section 4. Meeting Agendas
d. The Council chair will present a draft agenda to the Chancellor at least 10 days prior to the meeting for review.
e. After the Chancellor’s review, the agenda will be shared with Council members and finalized at least 1 week prior to the meeting.
On October 27, 2025, the College Council Members voted to remove Section 4 d and e from the current College Council Bylaws. The updated Bylaws are attached and have been added to the UNM-LA website.
UNM-LA Campus updates – Mike
- Senior Tortas is working to get the space ready in Building 2 and hopefully there
will be food service on campus in January. Permits are being processed.
- Construction will soon begin on the courtyard.
- Building 2 renovations will continue over the winter break. New windows will be installed
and repairs from the leaking roof will be completed.
- The Strategic Plan has been reviewed by the Executive Committee, and a draft version was shared with College Council. Updated metrics and the narrative will be presented at the December College Council meeting. Irina asked about the inclusion of marketing goals and Mike said that will be added to the items in the plan. Mike acknowledged that the new plan will help the campus move forward, especially with programs such as Complete College America (CCA) and thanked the campus for all the work they put into the Plan.
Academic Affairs – Brent
- There is a partnership agreement with the UNM School of Pharmacy. Brent thanked Coco
Rae for her work on this initiative.
- There is a partnership agreement with the UNM Continuing Education to list their courses
on our website and make them available to our community. Plans are for our campus
to participate in revenue sharing from this partnership.
- There are open positions: a Continuing Education Program Manager and 2 student workers
– one in the library and one in Academic Affairs.
- There is a request for an AA Program in Early Childhood Education development. Brent
thanked Sharon Hurley and Irina Alvestad for their work on this project.
- Work is being done with LACPS to facilitate the enrollment of Dual Credit students.
- A year-long academic course schedule is being developed to help students plan for an entire academic year, including dual credit students.
Student Services
- Anne shared that there are upcoming CCA workshops regarding Institutional Data collection
and analysis to support UNM-LA. Danielle, Valida, Yu Song, and Anne Jarrett are part
of this training.
- Coco shared that advisors are busy since Spring registration just opened, there has
been a lot of outreach done at various schools, the online orientation is being updated,
reenrollment data is being assessed to look at retention, and A Day in the Life program
has been successful. Specific activities include the following:
- Outreach Activities
- McCurdy College Fair – visited two weeks ago; engaged 500+ K-12 students to introduce early college concepts.
- LAHS Dual Credit Promotion – Lori and Jeff presented dual-credit options; applications are now being received.
- FAFSA Nights – Jenny organized multiple FAFSA information sessions at various schools.
- Dual Credit Support Projects
- Online Orientation – launched for dual-credit students and families; includes a mini new-student folder mailed physically.
- Enhanced Advising & Career Services – tailored for dual-credit participants.
- Micro-Chunked Orientation – regular online orientation for certificate/degree seekers
broken into short, manageable segments.
- Data Review & Retention
- Re-enrollment Analysis – Danielle and Jenny examined data on students with Satisfactory
Academic Progress (SAP) issues to assess impact on retention.

- Main-Campus Transition Packet – compiled essential resources from main-campus offices
for students planning to transfer.

- Ongoing projects aimed at better integrating the various UNM campuses under the UNM 2040

- Brittany produced a series featuring professionals from diverse fields, streamed live
to high-school sessions.

- The CIC ceremony will be held on December 2 at 2 pm in Rm 230 and all faculty and
staff are invited to attend.
- Student Government is hosting a food & supply drive through November 21. Donations can be dropped off in Building 1.
Communications – Beth Rue
- Anton Treuer events will be occurring on November 12 for faculty, students, and community
members including book club discussion, faculty and staff meet and greet, and evening
presentation at LAHS.
- 45th Anniversary Celebration will include cake and a chance for everyone to join to
celebrate on December 4.
- Website development is progressing, and more information needs to be added.

Human Resources – Sascha Guenter-Schlesinger
- TimeClock will no longer be used after November 29, In the interim, a paper system
will be used. A new system will be launched in February by UNM. Paper time sheets
will be used in the interim and department heads will be trained on how to use the
system. Leave requests should be put in TimeClock until February 21. Sascha will send
out an email explaining all of these changes.
- Planning has begun for the Spring Professional Development Day. Let Sascha know if you have suggestions for content.
Fundraising
- Brent mentioned that UNM-LA is cohosting a workforce event with NAIMI on December
14 on the UNM-LA campus - Workforce Development Symposium (Friday, November 14)
- Co-host: UNMLA & North American Intelligent Manufacturing Initiative

- The Grant is in a no-cost extension so funding will be limited.
- UNM-LA faculty and staff are invited to attend the Business Scholar Luncheon at SALA from 11 am – 1 pm on December 10, 2025, “Business 2 Business Networking Event.”

Survey Findings
- Response count: 42 students (potentially skewed).
- Top concerns:
- Mental & physical health care needs.
- Affordability of health resources.
“Timely Care is UNM’s virtual health platform offering mental-health counseling, physical-health consultations, psychiatry support, and connections to local basic-needs resources.”
Current Awareness Gaps
- Flyers distributed during orientation and first advising appointments.
- Information posted on Canvas and social media; however, many students remain unclear about access and services.
Action Steps Taken
- Student work-study created a step-by-step screenshot guide for:
- Logging in for the first time.
- Setting up a personal health profile (similar to a doctor’s intake).
- Navigating available resources.

Canvas Integration & Faculty Support Resources
Student Support Module (Kevin)
- “Get-to-Know-You” Canvas module includes a short quiz assessing student understanding of campus health resources.
- New recommendation: Add a quiz question such as “What health-care resources are available through Canvas?”.
Deployment Strategy
- New course templates: Upload the module to the Canvas Commons so faculty can import it without overwriting existing class settings.
- Existing courses: Instructors may manually add the module or update the quiz if they have not yet implemented it.
Faculty Assistance
- Faculty can contact Kevin for help customizing or embedding the module.
- A student resources module has been added to Canvas Commons.
- McGraw Hill is changing their course integrations in Spring 2026.
- UNM has a pilot course that is just beginning for faculty to learn more about accessibility.
