Linda Schappert, as the first member of her family to attend college, values the mission of UNM-Los Alamos (UNM-LA) to offer affordable, accessible, higher education opportunities in the northern New Mexico region. The Schappert family is enthusiastic in their support of the establishment of the UNM-LA Endowment Fund in memory of Gottfried Schappert, beloved spouse, father and grandfather.

Starting her career in the Harvard University library system, Linda with Gottfried later built a family and life together in Los Alamos. She served as UNM-LA library director through the 1980s and 1990s and dedicated her expertise to curating a welcoming user-friendly library, in support of students, faculty and the broader community.

Gottfried, a 30-year Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL) physicist, honored as a LANL Fellow, was a life-long learner, and proponent of education at all levels. He encouraged Linda in her studies and career, and supported his son Michael, daughter-in-law Claire and granddaughters Opale, Eloise and Angelique, all from Los Alamos, in their varied academic pursuits.

The Schappert family is pleased to make this legacy contribution to UNM-LA.
