Accounting

The Associate of Applied Science in Accounting is designed to prepare you for entry into the accounting field as an accounting clerk or technician. The core courses in general education, combined with computer applications, provide the necessary skills for success in today’s changing business world.

About the Program

You will become proficient in basic accounting principles: manual and computerized journals; posting; adjustments; monthly statements; payroll; bank reconciliations; cash flow reports; invoices; and the basics of taxes.

Some, but not all, of the required courses will transfer to a Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA) program at the Anderson School of Management at the UNM Albuquerque Campus. Students planning to seek a four-year degree in accounting or another business field should pursue an Associate of Arts in Pre-Business Administration.

Career Opportunities

With the AAS degree in Accounting, you will learn about financial and managerial accounting, Quickbooks, tax accounting, and other business areas. Past students have obtained jobs with local accounting firms, small businesses, and the Audit Division of the State of New Mexico.
