Accelerate Your Path to a New Career

The Accelerate Technical Training program provides students with resources to graduate in technical fields and opportunities to enhance their professional readiness skills to gain an edge in their chosen careers before they graduate.

Accelerate supports non-traditional students (see below) and transitional workers who want to retrain their skills for current workforce needs.Funded by a Department of Energy grant and managed by the New Mexico Regional Development Corporation (RDC), Accelerate is hosted at the University of New Mexico – Los Alamos, the University of New Mexico – Taos, Luna Community College, New Mexico Highlands University, Northern New Mexico College, and Santa Fe Community College.

Program Components

Small Student Cohorts – The Accelerate program at UNM-Los Alamos accepts 20 students per academic year. They are eligible to remain in the program until they graduate. The small cohort allows each student to receive personal attention from our faculty and staff.

Career Technical Advisor (CTA) - The CTA proactively and individually coaches students to make sure they are progressing toward their desired goals while helping them balance work, life, and school responsibilities. The advisor works one-on-one with students to develop problem-solving resources, navigate barriers, and resolve issues that could impact their progress and success.

Professional Readiness Events and Meetings - Events planned by the CTAs facilitate student interaction with regional employers and professionals in science, technology, engineering, and business fields. Workshops on campus cover topics such as résumé-writing, mock interviews, networking, job-searching, and other career readiness skills.

Fellowships - Accelerate provides opportunities for students to receive paid fellowships with regional employers to gain valuable, real-world experience before graduating.

Math Experience - Students who are eligible to take Math 099, Math 100, or Math 101, 102, 103 in the summer will be eligible to participate to gain a solid math foundation and progress more quickly to degree-required coursework. All participating students receive tuition assistance for these math credits, as well as a stipend.
