Anyone Can Learn to Sing Session 1

Anyone with the inclination to do so can learn to sing. This class will cover the basics of how we sing, and help us deal with the fear and nervousness encountered when singing in front of others. We will learn warm-up exercises and songs in a relaxed and non-judgmental group setting. We will also cover the basics of healthy and comfortable voice production, and will conclude our session with a mini-recital.

Coloring Book Mindfulness Creations

In this class, students will use doodling and coloring as ways to de-stress and bring about more mindfulness. Learn to create your own art, doodles, and soothing patterns and practice the basics of coloring and blending with a variety of media, including colored pencils, markers, and gel pens. By the end of class, you will have a collection of coloring pages designed by you.
Students should bring a sketchbook, drawing and coloring pencils, an eraser, and a black pen to class. An optional supply list will be provided prior to class.

Comics: Telling Stories with Sequential Art

Comic books. Graphic novels. Manga. We all read comics. But what are they? How do they function? What makes comics different from all other storytelling mediums? In this course, we'll explore the definition, history, and evolving visual-textual language of comics. Through discussion and hands-on exercises in scripting, layout, and traditional comic art techniques, we'll focus on how to create a compelling story using the comics medium. Along the way we'll touch on comics’ history and theory. The class will culminate in the creation of a complete short comic. No experience is necessary.
Students must purchase supplies separately. A list will be provided upon registration.

Painting with Palette Knife

Explore the exciting world of painting with a palette knife. Students will discover how the palette knife lends itself to various mediums, including oils and acrylics. This class is for all skill levels, from beginners to experienced painters. Students will learn by completing several paintings, from landscapes to abstracts.
Students must purchase supplies separately. A list will be provided upon registration.

Introduction to Basic Jewelry Making

Learn the basics of jewelry making in this introductory class intended for those with no previous jewelry making experience. You will learn beginning techniques for creating earrings, bracelets, and necklaces; how to work with the necessary tools; and beads, jewelry components, findings, and chains from an instructor who studied at the well-known Savannah College of Art and Design.
Cost of class includes all supplies and materials for making earrings, bracelets, and necklaces.

Playing the Didgeridoo

Learn to play the didgeridoo, a musical instrument traditional among Indigenous Australian people. This class will introduce you to the instrument and guide you through the principles and techniques of playing. Play for fun or relaxation. A study in the British Medical Journal even showed that playing the didgeridoo may benefit those who suffer from sleep apnea.
The cost of the class includes an instructional book. Students may purchase a didgeridoo from the instructor for $20 or $40.

Transfer Your Art to Fabric and More

Learn to transform your personal art into fabric or paper to create unique scarves, wrapping paper, wallpaper, and more. This class will teach the basics of digitizing art work and preparing it for printing using your smartphone along with Adobe software and an online printing service.
Students should bring a favorite creation such as a coloring page, photograph, doodle, inking design, or children’s artwork along with a smartphone and a flash drive. You must have full rights to the image you will be using. It is possible to purchase inking designs directly from the instructor: www.sashascully.com. If you do not have a smartphone, the instructor will assist you.

Pysanky: Ukrainian Egg Decorating

Decorate 3 to 6 eggs using a traditional Ukrainian technique known as Pysanky. In this 4-hour workshop, you will draw a geometric design on the eggs with liquid wax and dye the eggs with a sequence of dyes, similar to batik. Finished eggs will last for years.
Students must purchase a $12 Pysanky kit. Information about kit provided upon registration.

Smartphone/Light Box Photography

Learn to make the most of your smartphone to take high-quality photos. Students will build a portable, tabletop light box and then study the fundamentals of shooting.
Students should bring a smartphone to class and must purchase light box supplies separately. A list will be provided upon registration.
